This song began as a homework assignment from Ron Miller when I studied jazz composition with the maestro at the University of Miami. Ron taught me to explore modalities in my compositions and helped me to unlock new harmonic aromas. There are nods to Brian Wilson, Burt Bacharach and John Coltrane's Naima embedded within. The influence of Bernard Herrmann's score to Martin Scorsese's 1976, Taxi Driver as well as the extended major/minor harmonies of Charles Mingus are evident in this exercise.

The title is borrowed from the Belgian surrealist artist, Rene Magritte's painting of the same name.
