Jim Lucas - Electric Bass
Jahbone Opec - Drums and percussion

Words & music by Peter Tork.
This song was the credit role music at the end of The Monkees TV show in the 60s.
To say I was a Monkees fan would be a huge understatement.
To say that I am a huge Curtis Fuller fan would also be an understatement.
This track is my arrangement which starts by quoting Benny Golson's tune, Killer Joe.
Going deeper into Killer Joe I cite Curtis Fuller's improvised trombone solo from the 1960 album, Meet the Jazztet by Art Farmer/Benny Golson.
This trombone solo has been quoted more than once and has sort of taken on a life of it's own. The melody is quoted on Trombones first followed by Steel Pan and Fluty Synth. Next comes Peter's song.
Then, I'm drifting into a Gershwin dealio with Trombones and finally recapitulate to the Monkees.
Lots of glorious serendipity, dogs howling and yodeling.

Lyrics

FOR PETE'S SAKE
words and music by Peter Tork

Love is understanding
Don't you know that this is true?
Love is understanding
It's in everything we do.

In this generation (In this generation)
In this lovin' time (This lovin' time)
In this generation
We will make the world shine

We were born to love one another
This is somethin' we all need
We were born to love one another
We must be what we're goin' to be
And what we have to be is free

In this generation (In this generation)
In this lovin' time (This lovin' time)
In this generation
We will make the world shine

We were born to love one another
This is somethin' we all need
We were born to love one another
We must be what we're goin' to be
And what we have to be is free

Love is understandin', we gotta be free (In this generation)
Love is understandin', we gotta be free (In this generation)
In this generation, love is understandin'
We gotta be free (In this generation)
We gotta be free (In this generation)
We gotta be free (In this generation)
We gotta be free (In this generation)
